The Swoosh

The other day I had the privilege of having lunch with a couple from my work. They own and manage their own company and have been very successful doing it. They're in the farming industry and I know as much about farming as I do cars...very little. They talked about sprayers, fertilizers and grain prices and I sat there pretending like I was a part of the conversation.

I sat at the table listening to the conversation trying to learn whatever I could from them. I heard one of them mention to one of their employees, "When you have something tough, don't put it off! Just do it!"

I have always heard Nike's slogan "Just do it!" and never really thought much of it. It wasn't until I heard someone use it this way that it really challenged me.

There are so many things in my life that I make excuses for. I don't want to start a project because it won't be easy. I don't want to make that phone call because I know it will be uncomfortable. I don't want to get up and run because sleeping-in is much more comfortable.

I need to stop making excuses. I need to stop delaying doing the hard stuff. I need to stare into the face of my fear of failure and realize that if I delay or procrastinate doing the tough stuff that it will just make it that much harder.

That being consistent in preparation gives me confidence. That I'm more than able to tackle the tough stuff. That I'm capable.

So stop making excuses. Stop hiding behind fear. Stop delaying. Stop putting it off. JUST DO IT!
