Goodbye Facebook

The other day I was at my in-laws house and my mother-in-law asked me what I was giving up for Lent.

We always use Lent as a time to give up something that we feel occupies too much of our time or brain space. Usually after a few days we forget about our commitment and we pick up the habit or time waster.

In previous years my wife and I have give up soda, spending money and one year we gave up going out to eat. This year I have chosen to give up Facebook.

I spend far too much time reading updates and looking at pictures. There are many times where I will be sitting on the couch and grab my phone just to see what is going on in Facebook world.  Anytime I have my phone in my hand I am apt to look for new status updates. I will be at the store with my wife and find myself checking it too.

So I am giving it up until Easter. My wife has a agreed to take the app off of her phone, but I am completely deactivating my account. It is only temporary, but we will see how it changes my usage after Easter.

I plan to post updates and pictures from my life each day here. So keep coming back to see how it is going!

What about you? What is something in your life that is a time or brain space waster? What is something that you could benefit from giving it up?
