Soreness & Sleeves

This past week I've been running 4 miles each day for @ARunnerGirl's #memorialrun. It's been an awesome experience so far, but I'm definitely feeling it. I usually stick to somewhere around 3 miles 3x a week, but I am upping my game for the memorial run and with my training for the Santa Hustle Half Marathon.

My body was pretty well accustomed to the lower miles I was putting on it. I usually wasn't overly sore from my runs, but I also wasn't putting my entire effort into them either. Now that I'm training with a purpose I'm beginning to feel it. I'm feeling stronger and faster...and I like it! I have done more miles the past two weeks than I have in a very long time.

One of the major issues I'm having though is that the first mile and a half of my run is on my gravel driveway and the gravel road we live on. After running the first mile and a half on gravel it makes the paved road at the end feel amazing. My shoes are probably at the middle of their life, but I still get sore ankles and sometimes sore feet from even shorter distances. Now that I have upped my miles this week I'm beginning to feel it in my shins too.

It seems my Instagram has been flooded with people posting pictures of them wearing their compression sleeves/socks. I've talked with several of them and have not heard one complaint about the various brands of compression sleeves/socks. I've asked for a pair for my birthday (Thanksgiving), but figure I might have to save up a little bit of money and invest in a pair before that....or unless some company wants me to review them for them ;-)

What about you? Do you wear compression sleeves/socks? Do you like them? Pros/Cons? Favorite brand? I've also seen people wearing them on their arms, but I'm not quite sure I understand the necessity for runners to wear them except to look like a "serious runner."

  1. Oh, I'm right there with you! I'm dying to get a pair of compression sleeves/socks! I'm just having a hard time coughing up the $60+

I've been going cheap runner and wrapping my calves with long ace wraps after I'm done with my runs/workouts. Totally classy, I know. (Please, big compression sock/sleeve companies--MATT AND I NEED PRODUCTS TO REVIEW!!!) ;-)
