10 Fewer Pounds

A while back I wrote a blog ("Blah"), which was probably one of the most brutally honest blogs I've published. I admitted that I had slacked way off and had been insanely inconsistent since completing my half marathon in April. Being inconsistent and continuing to eat like I was training for a half marathon caused me to put on somewhere around 10 pounds (4.53592 kilos for you on the metric system...haha).

Over the past 8 weeks my father-in-law and I have been in a competition with a couple other people to see who could lose the most weight. We've finished the competition and I am proud to say I did lose those 10 pounds! Actually, over those 8 weeks I lost EXACTLY those 10 pounds! :-)

What was nice though was that the way I did it. I lived my life like normal...the only change was that I kept snacking to a minimum (not completely eliminated, but a minimum) and made sure I was more consistent with my running. Two things that are both attainable goals for me to continue even after the competition is over. My father-in-law took the other path...barely eating enough calories to avoid passing out, but he won...but I'm more interested in long term progress than short term gain.

It was funny though because during the competition our local news station did a story on weight loss competitions. They talked about how people are more likely to lose weight if there is money on the line. They even mentioned several websites (that I will not post here because I don't know enough about any of them to support one or the other) where you could bet that you would lose a certain amount. One claimed you put $300 on the line and if you lost the weight you got $1,000...if you didn' were out your $300. I definitely think that would be enough motivation for me!! I mean, "Hello, new wardrobe!!"
